Ramadan 2020 has been really interesting to say the least. Every year it zooms by but this one felt very different and a little lonely. Usually, we spend every evening together in large groups breaking our fast followed by prayers and long nights. COVID forced us all home to make new traditions and find new ways to feel the joys of Ramadan. I'm not going to lie, I cried the first 2 weeks of lockdown thinking about what 'normal life' would look like again.
To me, the official closing of Ramadan is this amazing smell in the house when you bake Ka'ak el Eid (it's from the toasted Anise seeds)
I've been out of the house for 9 years and never attempted to make my own ka'ak for Eid because I just go over to mama's when she makes it and get my fix of smells and goodies.
Thanks to COVID we learned something new to keep the traditions alive and was lucky enough to do it with my Gigi.
